I’ve always been a late bloomer! Even today I’m often at a loss in a crowd. As an older, middle-aged woman with creaky knees and hearing loss, I’m still frequently a step behind everyone else.
My Christian walk began in a similar way. I accepted Jesus at 11 but then just sort of checked the “saved from hell and damnation” box and went on my merry way. Until that is, life began to trip me up a bit. My lovely college roommate came to my rescue by introducing me to Bible study and the glorious fellowship that happens when women gather to study the Word of God. I’ve changed locations many times since those college years but studying Scripture daily has been a habit I’ve continued to cultivate in my life and it has made all the difference!
Paul was a bit of a late bloomer, too, when it came to following Jesus. Consequently, when he did learn the Truth, he covered a lot of ground both literally and figuratively. That’s why I think I frequently feel like I’m drinking from a big ol’ garden hose in the study of Romans. I’ve had to work hard to follow Paul’s teaching and I have had to dig deeper and study more than ever to understand– but oh how rewarding it has been to dig into the rich soil of God’s Word. My love for God, His Son, and His perfect plan for us has grown and sometimes felt a little like walking through the arboretum during Dallas Blooms—full of color and clarity.
So if you aren’t in the Word, get there. I promise you will never be the same and I also promise you will bloom!!
